The Ghosts of Immigrants
I.
They constantly question their identity-
Who are they?
What is home?
but their hands only grasp air
II.
They feel they are dying through the struggle
of the ropes around their necks,
pulling them to different sides of the world
III.
They feel,
the fabric of their being
unravelling.
That they have lost the struggle
IV.
Underneath they’re ghosts
slipping away,
slowly,
because they feel they have no home.
No one to perform their prayers over their bodies
No roots for them to hold on to.
