American Girl
I want to be that girl
with light hair
that catches in the sun.
As light as the wheat
in the heart of the Great Plains.
Translucent,
Pure.
I want pale skin,
that shudders under the kiss of snow.
Transparent.
Showing my throbbing veins
and running life.
Mississippi River etched in my skin.
I want that two-story house
with the white fence necklace.
And rose bushes guarding
the house from the “danger”
of the world.
Maybe then I can be a real “American Girl”
