For Days
Vineyards; scattered patches on this vividly green quilt, stretching across the earth’s floor. Each patch was seamlessly sewn together then sprinkled with cows the color of the night sky. Fields of yellow flowers blissfully danced in the breeze, growing on the ocean of hills, spilling out from between each wave. Radiant pockets of sunshine glimmered down onto the lucky few slivers of the land, highlighting the expansive fields of small flowers the color of honey; a shade of hope. Cloud’s tears fell down upon the tops of distant hills, kissing the land with its silver beams of rain. Green stems that fed into golden bushes of wheat quivered like the tails of rattlesnakes in the wind. The hills tumbled over the land, becoming smaller and smaller; fine lines on a wrinkled hand. Oranges grew, perfuming the air with something earthy and sweet. Cherry trees blossomed, blush petals snowed to the ground and littered the pale dust floor. Tumbleweeds raced the bold wind and became caught in stray, broken branches. Embedded in the expanse of the rolling hills lay a single road, carving through the greenery of the hills. I traced it, walked it, and followed that road home.
