the queen
demolished houses line abandoned streets,
covered in ash, covered in dust.
a single set of footprints remain,
meandering,
uncertain of where to step
in this mass grave.
a once vibrant city muted,
but the silent screams of the dead pierce the night,
haunting,
a constant reminder
of the price she had to pay.

This is a poem I wrote based on a drawing I did which was based on The Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu. While the story of the poem has definately changed, the idea of The Queen character and what she does is inspired by the protagonist of those books.
