Anything but the gray
The sun bathes my skin in golden light
But the warmth escapes me
Although chalk full of unfamiliar expressions
The buildings feel empty
I no longer recognize the faces in the windows
They’ve lost their weight
My daily routine bleaches the color from my life
Until all that’s left is the gray
But with my feet cemented to the icy concrete
I push on
Through the dull mess of the day
And I wait
For the color to rush back in
I welcome the brilliance of the light
I’d even embrace the darkness
Anything but the gray
