Old Friend
Waves gently lap against the dock
as he forages for crawfish along
the rocky lake shore. I stand to the side,
scouting the area as the water freezes
my dry, sandy toes to my tan flip-flops.
Will our paths ever again converge?
As his light blue jeans darken
from the grasp of the calming current,
I ask him what he’ll do in college, and he
tells me he’ll figure something out.
