i choose to forget
the ocean glittered
with the rays of sun
dancing upon its blanket of water
i saw you
that day by the shore
you didn’t recognize me,
your smiling eyes glazed with confusion as i waved at you
the eyes i used to know so well
the eyes that knew me
it hadn’t been that long,
or maybe memories
replayed like a movie
and made years seem like minutes
i sniffed and looked away,
my eyes brimming with tears as i looked up at the sun.
it was sunny that day.
i’ll never understand why you left.
or why you ignored me that day.
i smiled and shook my head,
i’ll have the memory
of your smiling eyes
and your toothy grin.
i’ll forget what you did.
i choose to forget.
