Summer
Eyes like empty swimming pools
full of beer cans at the end of the summer,
Pupils stone cold and black
smile lines harsh cracks in concrete
We sat side by side on the bus
looked out the same window
I saw the brown grass and imagined
the endless green that would come
You saw grey skies forever
Clouds were passersby and no matter
its vigor, the grass could never survive
the cold
