While sitting on my porch I see a stump of what once was—


I remember how tall you once were

I remember the cool shade you cast’d

I remember the playground your surroundings supply’d for me


O, I am sorry stump—


As I grew taller, you became frail

As I became stronger, your leaves fell

As I reached maturity, you crash’d down
