The Quieter One
Yesterday we ran
Along the sidewalk
Me, with a jacket and umbrella
And a bag full of
Things we might need
She, in black heels
And fishnets
And caked layers of
Glittery makeup.
Me, a few steps
Behind
Huffing and trying
To keep up,
Watching where my
Boots landed
On the soggy sidewalk.
She, a few steps ahead
Laughing as raindrops
Slid down her cheeks
That great golden hair
Tangled and flying
Head tilted skyward
Burdened by nothing.
