Lost in the Storm
Water beats the earth
As the cloaked traveller
And his split compass
Disappear into the rain.
In the eye of the storm
The lone horse,
Plagued by ghostly stallions,
Charges into an unknown future.
Freezing blue skin
Melts at the touch
Of the silver knights’ breath
On his back.
His rider,
Like a cursed gladiator of Rome
Rides behind, shrouded in shadow
On his broken chariot.
The crack of an electric whip
Yields fearful red eyes
That stare at the roiling clouds
That rule the mournful skies.
Crimson streaks the sky,
Bloody fingers reaching toward every horizon
Mark the deadly end of the storm
As the sun sinks into a deep slumber.
Hooves pound the ever-darkening earth
The wild steed loses his way.
Forever chasing
His cracked compass.

This poem can be interpreted a number of different ways. It started as a descriptive free verse poem, but morphed into this story that I think holds a deeper meaning that could change for you every time you read it.
