toast
Blood slides from my wrist creating a masterpiece I only wish I could frame.
Please, dress in your finest clothes.
Listen to the church bells sing in my honor
Flowers bloom for me to walk on
My ancestors dance to the music as they greet me, I take my final breath as I prepare to sway
My mother’s cries turn into my rhythm
The preaches turn into my anthem
My culture gathers and drinks to remember all the memories they'll soon forget, my aunts move their hips to celebrate my new welcoming
Raise your cup as I raise mine,
Lets toast for the unknown
For a blind beginning
To life
To death
Let the mariachis play with their lungs full of grief, fingers bleed, souls keep playing.
