Felix Mendelssohn lived until his sister died.
Others who did not think so, to their neighbors lied,
“Really, it was that man’s heart that failed him!”

I wonder if you remember that day in Disneyland,
Or if you’ve just forgotten you holding my hand.
Anyway, this isn’t the future for us I planned.
The keys on the piano now belong to me,
But the piano, for you, desperately pleas,
For one last run-through of Für Elise.

Instead I play his Contemplation,
And perhaps it’s fitting that I find his music a fixation.
After all, his and my heart went through the same.
It broke to see what of a siblings’ bond remained.
