4 Years
A lifetime of decisions
All accumulate into one choice
Just finally an adult
Trying to decipher all the noise
College or hard labor
We stress out at night
Our grades need a savior
To graduate on time
Four years is a lifetime
Where we make close friends
But when the door closes behind us
This lifetime ends
Like a phoenix from the ashes
We are reborn into something new
The person we have sculpted
Rises up as the truth
So many pathways open
Some narrow, some straight, some scary
We may stick to what we know
And never change until we’re buried
There is a freedom of choice
We have never experienced like this
We all try to find our voice
Amidst our early life crisis
Will we make the world a better place?
Contribute our talents towards the betterment of the world
Will we hide away and be solitary?
Or blend in the crowd like a flick of a paintbrush and a swirl?
Will we learn new tricks, make new friends?
Explore to places far and wide?
Or stick to what we know, stay familiar
And the same old town we will reside
What experience is bad experience?
What mistakes shall we make on our journey?
What will we do to preoccupy ourselves?
While the world keeps turning
Four years, one thousand four hundred sixteen days
They have blown past like a solitary hour
But these next few years, carpe diem
Let’s seize the moment, make it ours
Through this four years
One thing I know for certain
Nothing is promised, there may be no tomorrow
Just be happy with your life when they close the curtains
