Charley Mae
I am named after my dad
Charlie
And my middle name's one my mom gave me
Mae
Its meaning was proven true when I was younger; bitter
I never slept
I cried everywhere
I was a picky eater
I had one hell of an attitude
But good thing now I am almost the opposite
Charley Mae
A bitter free woman from the plains
Tell me how interesting that is
That is not the meaning that matters
The only meaning that matters is the one I think of
Only people I grew up with call me that
Only people close to my heart call me that
Only people who knew me as that bitter child
So when I hear it I smile
When I hear it I feel happy
When I hear it I think of my parents
When I hear it I am home
