Drag a deep breath

Carbon monoxide

Exhale years of your life

There goes one

Exhale

There goes two

Hydrogen Cyanide

Causes rapid death

A dad, My dad

Macular Degeneration

Blindness seeping in

A mom, My mom

Jaundice, terminal

Cirrhosis of the liver

Arsenic

Purposed for pesticide

Consumed by parents

By friends, by mentors

By doctors, by teachers

By people who tell you

It’s addictive

It’s deadly

It’ll be one of your biggest regrets

And yet here we are

A generation of teens

Who want to be “cool”

Don’t you see the mistakes?

The mistakes of our superior?

That’s bound to be

Our destiny

Because we don’t learn

People make mistakes

And they’re there for us to learn

But we don’t

We never do

Cheers to the ones who listen

Who listen and learn

Who don’t repeat history

This piece is about the effects of smoking. I have firsthand experience with watching the longterm effects of smoking because I've watched it slowing kill my parents.
