Fish Guts
Fresh water from the tap
Sloshes the bucket with life.
The dying fish take frenzied laps.
Even looking in those glassy eyes
That see nothing but water
It hurts a little to condemn these fish
To die.
But the life of the fish
Gives my knife a little more patience.
Who am I to waste a life with a careless fillet?
Who are you to scrape those scraps into the trash if you’ve never looked their bearer dead
In his watery, desperate, eye.
