Come here, my darling,

Let me tell you a story.

A story different

For every person who tells it.

A story of blind faith,

And of struggle.

A story to show you how

To work for what you want,

And how to lose everything that you need.

A story that is told to you

From the time that you are very little,

To the time you are ready to live it for yourself.

A story meant to scare you off.

A story meant to inspire.

A story of fair,

And of unfair.

A story just out of reach,

Yet always in your hands.

A story of broken hearts,

And happily ever afters.

A story of words that cut deeper than a knife,

And of words with the power to heal.

This is a story of

The young and the old,

The sick and the healthy,

The happy and the unhappy,

The believers and the non-believers,

This is the story of everyone.

I was inspired to write this piece by the juxtoposition of many of the Trump administration's cruel policies, like locking asylum seeking children in cages, with the America of our forefather's dreams.
