Don't judge a book by its cover

All seasons round,

I hope for sunlit paths in winter’s cold.

Wondering what it felt like to be found;

Standing strong and being bold.

They say I’m surfing the waves of resentment;

The harmonizing flow of melody can’t be felt.

Inferiority! It engulfs us with its fierce tides,

And makes us darker than our own shadow,

Dim clouds hover around us,

But would the sun be rising soon?

I believe a ray of sunshine is nigh.

Breaking the chains that once bound me,

I would happily stroll down the cold street.

The sun seems to be smiling down on me.

The melancholy is slowly fading away.

Gather round while we may,

The fierce old tides are past,

Our smiles would last from day to day.

We’ld  one day tell of how we survived winter’s cold, uneven tides fast.

Surviving The Uneven Tides

Surviving the uneven tides is a figurative, symbolic poem that juxtaposes social inequalities flow in the society to that of tides that is exerted. It lays emphasis of the struggles of living in a society where people are distinguished based on certain traits, class and status quo. This is a nineteen line poem of five stanzas which addresses the themes of neglect and inferiority from the society. The author allows herself to be vulnerable and express how she has been treated. In terms of imagery, she evokes a simplicit image of how she has been going through every one of these issues. She just want something different not just for her but for others who she is voicing out for. She wants everyone to feel the sense of involvement. Then finally everyone becomes aware and they strive to come out of their hiding into the sunshine that is near.
