Floating Helpless

Swipe! My support pulled from under me,

I gasped for air, reaching out for his body.

My vision became blurry and my eyes stung,

Afraid of the realm where I had been flung.

I lost all my air and could no longer think,

I looked up towards the sun and began to sink.

How could this be happening now?

Minutes ago, I was wiping sweat from my brow.

Now I’m stuck floating below the ripples.

My time had come, my panic triples.

I decided once more to try,

To reach for life up towards the sky.

His hand flung out before my face,

To save me, he reached this place.

My hand met his hand.

He pulled me up and back onto the land.

My brother and I fell to the ground.

I can’t believe that I’d nearly drown.

My brother though, reversed my fate,

With his strength, lifted my weight.

He saved me from the water that day,

I cannot return this favor I must repay.
