Earth's Heaven
Comradery.
Compassion.
Courage.
Scaling the trails as the heavens cry;
I hear the booming voice of the almighty;
He challenges me to follow, but urges me to stay.
We wait . . .
Hiding from his wrath in the lush forest;
awaiting Zeus’ change of heart;
As his tirade fades, we forge ahead;
We inch towards our pinnacle;
Carrying the world on our backs with goal in sight;
Breaking through the clouds themselves.
I’m overcome by awe . . .
I see all; The currents of the Universe being circulated through me;
At the merging of heaven and earth, I see the world through the eyes of an angel;
The whole world seemed to be at my fingertips, Standing 1400 feet high;
Looking over the edge, my fear was nonexistent;
In the comforting embrace of mother nature;
I am at peace.

This year in English class I was assigned a project to create a representation of a transcendental event I lived through. I wrote a poem depicting an Outward Bound backpacking and canoeing trip I experienced. This trip was such a physically and socialy difficult time, but after adgusting, I had some of the most awakening moments of my life. In my poem, I write about one memorable day of my two week journey that was especially amazing: hiking up mountains with 60 lbs on my back, braving a brutal thunder storm, and actually walking through clouds as the highlight. My teacher, my classmates, and my uncle, who is a college English professor, were all shocked I could write a poem this vivid. They all gave me the best responses I’d ever received on a piece of writing.
