Friends
The rugged path around you has yet another fork in the road
You look back to see the straight hiking path that you have grown to love
But you are getting a little sick of it
The somewhat monotonous linear path
The lack of depth
The trail doesn't want to give back
Although the friendly and simple hike has treated you fairly well
You are sure that you are ready for change
The sign to the left: 52.3 miles
Uncharted territory that's mysteries have yet to be uncovered
You heard from a close friend that this trail is risky
It’s elevated
It’s dangerous
But it’s the most fun he has ever had
The sign to the right: 170.4 miles
The same old path
Same traditions
Same ambitions
Repetitions
But no additions
Do you take the path of risk
Risk death
But also risk living your best life
Or do you take the path you have always known
Where nobody can hurt you but yourself
Because you know the land like the back of your left hand
But you are starting to get sick of the same old view
Are you obligated to stay on the path that you promised you would finish
The one that has kept you in the haven where nobody can touch you
Or are you allowed to finally venture out into the real world
Where risks are not only encouraged
But necessary
As you look at the two spruce wooden signs
You look behind you and apologize
