A time of simple phone calls

late night sodapop runs

accompanied by a striped bendy straw

As the soft rhythm of the jukebox

plays from behind you

But not all eyes dilated to

a lit up surface

lacking the simplicity of

contact and communication

Earbuds isolate us from

sounds of laughter

and potential bliss

which we crave

Shifting through the day in bell bottoms,

air washes over your skin

through the fabric in each step

As wind hits you on your bike ride home

nothing to do before deciding

to accompany your parents on the couch

The TEEN magazine sits beside you,

comforting the youth and innocence

that you fear to lose

The author's comments:

This piece is a contrast of multiple different decades and present day. I, specifically, focused on societal changes which I find particularly interesting and notable.
