My mind’s constantly floating

As if in a never-ending black space; noting

Everything while at the same time dreaming

Of books, movies, family; like pictures gleaming

It’s hard to socialize; my body remains withdrawn

Yet there are attempts in reaching out from beyond what’s drawn

And settled perfectly as if a leaf

My own mind and imagination; beyond belief

My eyes remain a fixed position

Analyzing, observing; all in repetition

I watch the way people talk and do things

I take in the environment around me; whatever it brings

Every day I do the same thing; wake up, plug into electronics

Blocking out the sounds of the world; vibrating like tectonics

Before, I didn’t know this was autism

My mom, with her wisdom,

Assumed it was a slight delay

She’s always believing that I will succeed one day

In becoming independent; living by myself

Getting a job; paying bills and everything else

Recently, once my diagnosis was received,

I remained shocked; slightly not at ease

There are some odd things about me

Yet nobody in my life told me or could see

That what I have is autism

I know, it’s a part of who I am

I still have the same personality; same plan

Great improvements have been made

As the autism levels improve and decrease; day by day
