My uncle once said:

'Women are pieces of work!'

And  for once the man was right

'Women are artwork!'

And he was spitting chewing tobacco sitting in a lazy boy

Going on about the slavs

the blacks, and the b****es

And I was 8 or 9 coloring on the floor

And I had to bite my tongue then but I don't have to anymore

Now I'm thorns and vines

And I'm colder than the ice that was clinking in his glass

I'm not somebody's daughter

 somebody's future wife

Or somebody's body  to hit and tap

I'm a body of work

This is just volume one

I have encyclopedic thoughts

I am not even close to done

You'll be hearing more from me

This is female scripture

And don't worry man

you'll still be in the picture

And if you think

I'm forcing myviews on you

And if you think

 I'm assaulting your masculine senses

I've been groped

I've been followed

I've been denied access

I've endured lewd comments

I've sat through educators telling me feminism isn't necessary

I've been assumed dumb

I've been forced

to change my looks to not arouse men

I've been forced

to hide the life force that I am

So maybe you could listen just this once to my view

Giving us equal rights

won't take anything from you

This is a piece of work

From a piece of work

Who has been torn to pieces

And has put in the work

To build up her body

Her body of work

Women work  hard

Women's works matter

We are all pieces of the greatest

work ever known.

I don't always write feminist poems but  when I do they involve wordplay
