Slain
I stare into the Vast abyss as I step slowly toward my morbid grave.
I gaze deeply into the portrait of fear.
The monster. The beast.
Listening
so intently that I can hear time itself passing.
Then, as swift and as silent as a cat, the creature crept upon me.
At that very moment,
I looked death in the face
and I kissed it.
The grip on my sword tightened as I removed the
-- smooth blade --
from its sheath. Taking one graceful, determined swing,
I struck the monstrosity.
Falling to the earth softly.
The Nightmare defeated.
The curse lifted.
The journey completed.
