Take him away
If you are an alcoholic
and beating your kids everyday
then it’s okay
to take him away
If you are kind
and feeding your kids love everyday
then there’s no need
to take him away
But what about the middle
What if he doesn’t always raise a fist
but instead
raises his voice
in a way to make you
beat yourself
instead of him
having to do the work
Never drank or raised a glass
but instead
broke the glass vase
to shut you up
Doesn’t leave too many marks on your skin
but leaves way too many on your brain
Do we take him away then

This piece is to create an awareness for verbal or mental abuse that a parent (in this case a father) would have on a child. I’m currently taking psychology, and I learned that for many years people didn’t believe in psychological illnesses or abuse. There’s a stigma about it because you cannot see it. You can’t crack someone’s head open and say, “Oh yeah, that DID do damage to them.” There is a grey area between two types of parenting styles, and not many people even think it’s real to mentally abuse a child. Hopefully this creates any awareness on what is okay and what is not.
