interlocked silver chains
throttled by
halos of gold,
destined to climb up,
up,
and collide with galaxies.
i wonder
if Artemis strangled
her beloved Orion
with this garrote of starlight
did Hades
ensnare darling
Spring
with this lasso,
forged from the milk of
nebulas?
and Arachne’s web
of hubris?
was it woven
from this thread
of comets,
scattered by Jupiter?
i could grab the reins,
tame the winds,
ride the fires of hell
like a bucking bull …
or don the noose,
and never
grasp constellations in my palms
as the string of my ancestors
pulls me
up
