Behind the Human Eye
Look at the way we move, so questioning.
Our eyes holding secrets behind them,
our bodies only used as a second skin.
I ask if I held my head high enough,
would I be able to see the gleaming sun.
Sweat starts to form, oozing from my pores.
I see my pain escaping through them, quickly wiping it away.
Oh how summer makes you so much more vulnerable.
If you take a look at your surroundings, you’ll notice the
trees no longer hiding.
I ask you if it’s okay to finally say the words
that sat under my tongue, for safekeeping.
Your eyes lighting up, I notice you’re reaching for
the clouds like they were candy.
A part of you I’ve never seen is shining from
your windows, a reflection of the sun.
We laugh together and I wonder if it was okay to come out of hiding,
This isolation all along.
Do you think so?
Reaching for the sun, reaching for myself.
The light, this is my life.
The air finally warm, capturing me in it’s inviting arms.
