Idol
Thank you,
For this one sided conversation
This slice of real, craved by millions
Why does it seem
When so many others listen
That your words sing to me, and only me?
Happiness is finding a way to be grateful for your pain
But is that what you did?
Among the stories, the tabloids
The pictures, the captions,
The rumors, the lies.
Where is happiness for you?
You,
Calling from the peak of some
Manufactured mountain---
A skyscraper with a locked door
When few have the key,
Fewer still are willing to climb the stairs---
A peak millions lifted you to
Including me, I fell into step with the rest
My hands are dirty too
We gave you voice
And you spoke, but what about?
Stories, tabloids,
pictures, captions,
Rumors, lies.
There is no real between us
Just an ocean I don’t know how to cross
On the other side of which I don’t really know what lies---
If anything
How can you not see---
From across the ocean,
From the peak of the mountain,
The topmost floor of the skyscraper---
See the people you left behind?
Your words don’t scream to me, and only me.
They fly across the ocean like paper airplanes
Trickle down the sides of that mountain like a stream
Fall through the sky like rain
And you can’t control who gets wet
So where is happiness for you?
If you can bare it, tell the truth
For God’s sake, tell the truth
Because I can’t stand you
Telling me that one day, I will be grateful for my pain
When you don’t even know
If you are
