I Am From
I am from engaged urban life encompassing my every step with a scent of local cuisine and a strong work ethic in the busy streets of Cairo.
I am from crowded streets surrounded by the perpetual honking of cars and the eternal commercial and residential buildings at every angle.
I am from a summer filled with the crashing of waves and hourly showers following an eventful day with family and friends.
I am from loud family gatherings filled with greetings and goodbyes taking place annually.
I am from waking up to eggs alongside bread and a variety of juices,
I am from diversified sandwiches to rice and spaghetti,
I am from a lengthy grill session of chicken and meat alongside eternal salads,
I am from going out with friends in the early hours of the morning and eating what the night takes us to.
I am from “Treat others with respect.”
From “Do the best you can.”
From“I miss you.”
And finally from “It’s been a while”
I am from individuals who have conquered their childhood dreams,
I am from aunts, uncles, and grandparents who constantly remind me to be my best self,
I am from a country who has fought for my freedom,
I am from a caring family and supportive friends.
