the summer breeze is gone
leaves litter the pathways
of a sleepy town
that holds its breath
witches and spirits dance
along foggy streets
awaiting the night of hallow’s eve
they hold their breath
dreary clouds tumble through the air
ushering along a biting wind
blanketing the dark autumn sky

a girl wanders across avenues
dipped in dreary lamplight
