colors
mahogany is the color i see
swirled throughout the dark woods
i am not as scared as i should be
the sky’s a hue of rust and blood
turquoise is the color of splashing
the soft ocean crashing
my family and friends smiling
my papa and i fishing
red is the color that is fleeting
planted all around me
i see roses in my papa’s front yard
but the color drains
as it does in everything
white is the color sparkling
in the cold winter sun
sometimes colored yellow
disregarding its new york beauty
blue is the smell of bursting
blueberry pancakes made
each sunday when i wake
they splatter on my shirt
like the blue rain in ireland
that falls just like home

Many different life experiences and the colors I associated with them were spread throughout this poem. I find this poem to be people's favorite of mine, as it brings light and dark qualities to life around us. I am lucky for the life I have. I hope someone else reads this poem and is motivated to write about their life, any little detail of it. One thing I learned is that any part of you can be interesting to readers, just be descriptive.
