The Detailed Abstract
Bittersweet frustration
clinging to the sides of my mouth
Betrayal and mistrust, tasting of green,
by the friends who don’t show up or
the man who almost made me believe in love
Rita’s custard melting and souring in my mouth because
that was his favorite place
Sadness, dripping down my cheeks
salty
sticky
black like darkness
Cold-hard concrete leaving bruises all over
Pointy, sharp, needles and unknown objects
pushed into your skin
A blade's edge ripping
blood oozing
like gooey trash
Rotten food touched by accident
yellow on the surface
Bugs crawling up and down your legs
the fear grows
A man walks past your window in the latest hour
he smiles knowing you can’t stop him
A boy drives like a manic down the main highway, just because
why not? hurting feels nice
Thin air coating the land to suffocate
or bring you to a ledge you can not see down from
it is a small few steps, keeping you alive
Burnt food sizzling on the hot pan
like eggs from the morning
stuck, unable to be removed
A purple orchid left out in the sun too long
poked too much-- without water,
shows it’s decaying limbs
The absent scent of my mother
fleeting the house
A scream let out in fury
held in for way too long
The voice in your ear whispers
“you deserve this”

This is a very personal piece that allowed me to get closure on an upsetting event. This was inspired by the many movements around the world, like #metoo, that are trying to encourage women to speak up when something happens. I hope this poem inspires someone else to tell their story.
