“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.'”-Eleanor Roosevelt

In the midst of silence

there is always an echoing whisper.

Refuse the temptation to hear it

Listen instead.

Indulge in every single word

And savor the broken silence sweetly.

When soft talks morph into shaky cries

Rest the broken among shoulder blades.

Don’t hear the battle cries waging within

Listen for a heart and soul.

Let delicate thoughts dangle fearlessly

At the tips of your fingers.

Understand that every problem

Comes with countless solutions.

Countdown the days till they see colors once more

Countdown the days till your hand can let go.

You count because you care

Because they count on you, while you count for them.

When the bright hues settle above

Let go of their hand as they reach for the sun.

Nurse broken wings until they’re able to fly,

Help no matter the man and the past that surrounds them.

This was inspired by a 'how to' prompt. I wanted to showcase how I've let myself become engulfed in helping others even when it has ended up harming myself.
