Goodbye
Another ordinary day;
Loud cartoons on the tv,
sugary cereal for breakfast.
You sleep next to my dad, with your
Weak knees and a tired soul.
All those years of running, chasing and snuggling.
They have caught up to you.
Through the pain, you still bring our family joy.
Sadly,
This is the last time I get to pet you,
The last time you would lick my face,
The last time I will hug you.
The last time you will protect me from the storm.
I watched you climb into the car.
Little did I know, you weren’t coming back.

This poem I wrote in the memory of my first pet. She was like family and I wanted to honor her story here.
