Our Sidewalk Stamp
V.O. + E.L. = <3
The staple of our everlasting love right under the apple trees,
Engraved in the indestructible sidewalk with my silver house keys.
We used my keys to demonstrate our love.
He used his keys and God took him above.
Grounded on the concrete, I shake with no control
As my eyes observe the cars zoom by, it aches my soul.
I’m stuck in the crash.
The image of him bleeding.
It all happened in a flash.
He was just speeding.
I hear him in my ear whispering, “I love you, Vee”.
Chills crawl up my spine. He’s all I can think about, all I can see.
“Oh how cute,” a stranger claims as she stares at the imprint.
“Their initials spell LOVE, that’s gotta be God’s hint.’”
I glance at her with sorrow, I grab my silver house keys.
Breathe in. Breathe out. And get down on my knees.
V.O. + E.L = <3 (Strikethrough here)

This piece was inspired by an engraving on the sidewalk that I once saw. I hope it connects to those who've experienced the trauma of a car accident (or any accident in general) and may have lost someone because of such.
