Basal

Going through the air

At least wearing a helmet,

No parachute which was much needed and

Going, going, GONE

Life is so precious to roll the dice on

In a coma for a long time

And stuck in a dream that was thought to be real life.

Life

Life is not easy so get used to it

Hours upon hours of therapy and counseling

Life turned upside down in the blink of an eye

God has other plans for me in this life

I was on top

But now I've been knocked off my tower and having to start over

Shocking everyone in time with my recovery

Actions coming back slowly one at a time

Too slow for my patience to stand

But I wait for a fantastic woman to come into my life to help carry on my name

Emanuel. God With Us

Me  being the fifth isn’t enough

I want to live to be one hundred to see my name continue on.

And to help others who have been through rough times as well.

The Swan Dive

He was doing swell

New motorcycle, no more school, and nice weather

Fair enough rider, but not the best with the clutch.

One nice day they went to town,

And on the way back, he lost control.

And the dive began, 50 feet from top to bottom

All that way he fell with nothing broken but a simple brain connection.

Now he lives everyday recovering slowly but surely.

Every single day there was a struggle in some way,

But he waits for the day everything is back to normal.

The Rim

Since the 5th grade I loved basketball

Favorite sport since I could shoot the ball

Even though I am short I dreamed of dunking the ball.

From then on I practiced being able to jump high enough

Then the summer after 7th grade I was able to finally touch the backboard

So I continued jumping and jumping, over and over, to get stronger

Then finally after my Junior year of high school I hit the point of enough muscle,

Where I could run to the basket and at only 5’6” jump to fly into the air and grab the rim.

Spring Up

Once in the Spring when my hops were great,

I got onto a high jump mat and decided to try to flip like I had seen people do.

So I said “to heck with it” and tried to do a backflip

It took a few fails of landing on my face before I could finally land a flip clean

After I got brave enough to try it on the ground people were watching me,

I went for it and my first attempt was a success.

Yamaha

Young & reckless

Always looking for new obstacles

Must be dominating my positions

A nice bike

Hot summer day

A New chapter of life begins

Impatient

I am unable to be patient

More likely to do something else

Poor at waiting

Awful at having patience altogether

Time is of the essence

Impossible to keep waiting for too long

End of the time

No more patience left

No way to stay waiting for a long time

Too stubborn to wait any longer

Transition

Testing the limits every day

Racing to get back to full function

Always frustrated to the max within therapy

Nothing getting better fast enough

So much better than when he first woke up

Inspiring others on so many levels with his recovery

Training muscles to wake up again

In order to have function back

Onto greater things with his second chance at life

Nine lives like a cat

Hospital

Hope and prayers onto the young man

Only suffering when watching the sports he should’ve been playing

Surgery went well thank goodness thanks to god

Perfectly revived from his tall dive to the Earth

Invincible to death at this point

Therapy helps him get better

All actions were not the best either side of the accident

Learning to be a better person closer to the God who saved me

Future

Flew threw the air

Unbelievable work from god by saving him

Too unreal to not believe it wasn’t god’s work

Unspeakable magic put over him to keep him alive and allow him to prosper

Resurrection to the point he can strive to get back to normal

Enough grace put on him he can live on to help others and live a full life

Therapy

Too many hours for a year in recovery

Helpful but aggravating

Easily ticked off with tasks i could do and now cannot

Really quick to get to being pissed

Always struggling with controlling my anger

Pushed down from my pedestal of being amazing in the town

Yielding to being like all others in the aspects of life

He Who Loves Sports

He, who loves sports

Jack followed Emanuel

He thought this ride would make him happy but he was mistaken,

They all soon realized it was a bad idea.

Everybody was threatened with his life.

Jack thought he could have the joy of riding.

Each member was nearly shocked with the near death of Jack

Yamaha

Jack a bird.

Jack

Flying into a dive.

All to chase joy.

Handicapped.

Change

This man was so high up on a pedestal

World at his fingertips

Then god made him like everyone else

The man flew like a bird and came down hard

He now has disabilities

Went from doing flips with ease to struggling with walking

Now he realizes life isn’t fair and you really need to work at it for it to be nice

Could land a backflip with ease but barely survived the flight he went on

Life wasn’t easy and now it was very clear that it was very difficult

First Day

It was a nice sunny day

Which would be the day of his first bike ride

All was going well until he went to get on the interstate to go home the left turn on the overpass had him lose control and fly off

He did a swan dive off the fifty foot pass

Not supposed to remember anything or even live through the night

This guy defied all odds and survived and slowly but surely began to function like he used to be able to

The Swan Dive:

A Collection of Poems

My name is Emanuel (Trip). I am a 19 year-old handicapped man. The reason I do not look handicapped is because the damage is only been done to my brain. I will tell you that story later. I was born in Billings, Montana on August 5, 1999. After a little while, my family moved to a town near Houston, Texas. Once I finished my first half of third grade, I moved back to Billings.  I went to school until I finished the 7th grade. Then, we moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. My sophomore year our house literally went up in flames. Then, we moved to the small town of Red Lodge, Montana. I have been here ever since.

With moving so much, of course, we had fun on the side. We had a boat, and my Dad loved motorcycles  so we had those as well. I did have a tough life, but I did not let it stop me. For example, when living in Texas, we lived through Hurricane Ike, which was as you can imagine not easy. The next disaster we lived through was a house fire in Colorado. The fire moved my family to Red Lodge Montana my sophomore year. The summer after my junior year, my grandfather bought me a Yamaha 650 motorcycle. He gave it to me sometime in May. On June 19th, I got my learner's permit for riding it, and on the very next day we went to Billings buy motorcycle gear. After we bought our gear, we decided to go home, so we got on the road  to go home. Then, we were on the overpass turning left to go home, and because I did not have enough experience, I lost control on the overpass. I hit the overpass barrier and flew off. Three-hundred and fifty feet down to the ground. With this swan dive, I suffered zero broken bones but suffered tremendous damage to my brain. I went through two brain surgeries and was not supposed to even live through the night. Yet defying all odds, I survived with almost all my memory and all motor function on the right half of my body.

Here are my poems about my injury, recovery, and who I was beforehand.
