First Love
A first love can come from highschool, even being a sweetheart.
It started with small talk in class
To trying to do everything with them
Or in benefit to see them more
That boy who was in one of your classes
Who then became your boyfriend
And you had a picture perfect relationship
Although no one saw behind the scenes
You started to think to yourself
That it’s familiar
And then you remember
To think way back
To the childhood days
The ones where you’d play dress up,
All alone
Because the one
Who was suppose to play with you
Used the excuse of
“I’m busy honey I’ll play with you later”
But later never came
As time went on
Personality changed into
Rebellious and naive
Dad tried to tell you things
That you refused to believe
Those types of fights are normal
Because every child and parent can fight
But this fight was far worse than normal
For abuse was shown
Maybe not physically shown,
But found in the heart
And the mind
And since everyone always appreciates their dads
You’re almost forced to think the same
Having to sit back, smile and agree,
But inside you're trying to hide the emotional abuse that is clearly seen
Expressing this part,
Is too heavy for my heart,
So I’ll keep it short, simple, and somewhat sweet,
Dads are supposed to be your first love
But what if they aren’t?
You won’t know the right from the wrong boy
You’ll end up falling for the wrong person
And believe you’re in love
When you’re really truly not
Because the same “love” that your father once showed you
Will be repeated
By that boy from that one class
So when you think of your very first love
Especially when you’ve never even really seen it,
It might be hard to realize
That it wasn’t even there.
