If you were a color

you would belong to the morning dusk

If your eyes were embroidered with heart

you would see me only with love

If your lungs were laced with gold

you would drown me in a pool of precious syllables

If your soul were a pot of honey

your laugh could summon a thousand bees

If your heart was a manic squirrel

our love would run rampant and wild and free

If your face was a puzzle

I would explore every piece of you

If I could capture your essence

A thousand lifeboats would set sail in your reflection

If your hopes were skyscrapers

I would climb endlessly

If our paths diverged

the ends of my fingertips would burn with the lingering thought of you

If your feet were made of lead

I would yield the burden of your heavy steps

If your thoughts were wrought iron chains

I would blindly search through your darkness

If your secrets were black ink

I would soak you in with every inch of skin on my body

If your nail beds were lined with bronze

your touch would turn my blood to thin ice

If your eyes were shattered windows

your saltwater tears would spill glass

If your heart is so stiff

That you’ve turned me into a mere stranger

Every inch of my body traced in salt

Like the sands that line the shore

washed over by unforgiving waves
