Are we there yet? A tribute to my sister
The sweet taste of cinnamon during our sisters weekend
And cheesecake from New York on Christmas eve
The sugary candy from birthday parties
Her rainbow hair and dark brown eyes
Her many piercings and dark clothing
Her square shaped glasses and fancy dresses
Staring off into the distance when a soccer ball is coming towards the goal
Gushing about Harry Potter
Pine needles from the Christmas tree, falling to the floor
The loud beat of rock music pounding through the house
The countdowns until the next time we see each other
People suddenly deciding that we don’t exist
And the angry text messages
And the love
And the hate
She thinks Vine is better than Youtube
She likes music by Lindsey Stirling
And Reminiscing about the Youtube videos she made with her best friend when she was thirteen
And going to concerts with her fiance
And going to the science museum with her 7 year old child, my niece
The bad jokes from Dad
And warm hot chocolate on Christmas morning
With jealousy of who gets what
And when they get it
The Doctor Who know-it-all
The long car rides
And the four words that always seem to repeat
Also known as
“Are we there yet?”
Cold ice cream on warm summer days
Topped with hot fudge and cherries
The salty spray of the ocean
And the soft sand under our feet
Books galore
And every five year old girl’s dream
Of the perfect tea party
She smiles
She shines as bright as the sun
And I love her more than anyone
