the curse of lovers

the problem with being a lover
is that you poor so much love
and energy into a soul
but they take and take
and will never give but
you.
you end up believing.
and so you march on naively
knowing full well he's just another leaf
on the same old tree until.

until she was seventeen
only a girl
with the power of a woman
at her feet
learning to be scared of the life
that's inside her
growing stronger each day
and finally reminds her
to bring back the fire
he stole from her eyes
