Mother
Painted on the backs of my hands are
solar systems
One of my mother’s gifts to me, an
Indelible compass, allowing me to find
not only
North, but also my way home to her,
Toward the place I belong
Back in her arms, drawn to her love

I am 18 years old and a senior in high school. My passion lies in poetry, especially personal narratives. I started creative writing in seventh grade, and took a Creative Writing class at Trinity University in San Antonio with the Duke Talent Identification Program. My long term goals include publishing my own book of poetry and a memoir.
