A curious combination of dark and light

We feel grey when we feel nothing at all

The clouds unleashing their might

Tapping our senses in fright

When they're the color grey.

Is it more black or white?

Fires burn grey clouds

We grow grey hair as our lifespans become light

Two nothings mixed, in our minds, it can overcrowd

When we die, do we see black or white?

The answer is in your optimism, do you believe in the light?

The answers will come when we die,

Too bad that will leave everybody else grey with confusion.

The world will never know if we sink or if we fly.

The author's comments:

I included this poem because grey is my favorite color, and one of my favorite words. It's equally nothing as it is everything combined. It can be spelled a British way, which is so elegant. Grey can mean anything you want it to, and it is made out of the two nothings: black and white. I like this poem because it tells how many different places grey can be found, and how many roles it can take on.

The poem I chose was to write about a color. Since grey is my favorite, it felt fitting and easy to write about. In this poem, we had to express feelings about this color, and I set the mood of gloomy, unfathomable, and well, grey. I like the way I explained growing grey with confusion, for it can be interpreted in many ways. You can grow old, and grey, with confusion over something, or we could grow grey, as in into the unknown. Grey has so many meanings, it is a beautiful color to write about.
