My hair grew long

With the web of deceit you weaved into it.

My neck bruised

Each time you came home drunk, looking for someone to blame.

My brittle nails cracked

The way your voice did when you pleaded for forgiveness.

I was naive for believing you then.

After a year, you took me by the throat

And made me choke on your lies once again.

I gasped for air. My feet dangled off the floor.

I couldn’t anymore, I begged for your sweet release.

You let me slip through your shaky, shivering hands

And I saw my reflection in your glassy eyes.

I fell to the floor and you didn’t even look.

A pile of sad defeat, a remnant of what once was.

I must ask you something, break my heart if you must.

Do you enjoy torturing me?

This game where you shatter my soul and kick the pieces away?

Tell me!

I’ve dealt with your abuse for far too long.

You don’t answer and you smile and you turn around and you leave.

I wonder what your answer would’ve been.
