The Beach
The Beach
I love to be by the ocean.
My favorite place is the beach.
I feel my toes in the sand,
And I lay in the sun.
Singing to me are the waves.
The sea air is full of salt.
The boardwalk french fries cover my fingers with salt.
I walk next to the ocean.
A little child runs by and waves.
People play volleyball on the beach.
Their shoulders get burned by the sun,
And their feet burn in the hot sand.
A storm rolls in and blows the sand.
All I can taste is the salt.
We can no longer feel the sun.
I watch the swells of the ocean.
People run off the beach.
I admire the size of the waves.
The weather calms and tames the waves.
I walk in the rain drenched sand.
There is no one on the beach.
I take it all in with a grain of salt.
Shells are washing up out of the ocean.
I await the return of the sun.
The next day brings up the sun.
We spend more time in the waves.
I take a nap by the ocean,
Under the umbrella stuck in the sand.
I snack on some peanuts roasted in salt.
I love a great day on the beach.
Then comes the time to leave the beach.
I will miss the sun,
And the smell of salt.
There will be no more waves
Crashing into the sand.
I hate leaving the ocean.
I want to live on the beach with the waves.
My friends are the sun and the sand.
The salt air fills my lungs with the ocean.

I wrote this piece as an assignment in my Creative Writing class. It is a senista poem where you choose five words and change the order in which they appear at the end of the lines of poetry. I really like the way it turned out. The beach is my favorite place!
