undisturbed
the woman in the white dress
stood over the edge of the bridge.
the damsel let up her parasol to shield
herself from the blazing sun.
the green in her eyes
matched the green of the lilys below.
the birds humming around her
introduced a new sincerity.
the maiden stood still for a moment,
enjoying the sights.
she toed off the creaking bridge,
heels echoing faintly.
she breathed in the smell
of the dew drops on the grass.
she took off her dress
revealing a white corset.
she let her white shield down
and bared her feet.
staring into the clear
surface of the pond,
an image she came to know
was staring back at her.
she dropped her belongings
and waded into the lily pads
home.
she stayed awhile
above the surface.
eventually,
she became one with her surroundings.
the birds stopped humming.
the sun stopped blazing.
her green eyes
dulled.
for it was her last moment
of happiness,
of a world that was
constantly moving.
she slept a deep sleep,
becoming one with the stillness.
her slumber,
undisturbed.
