apart
Not all long-distance relationships are
romantic.
They can be friendly, platonic,
casual even.
Every individual connection,
unique. Although,
they all have something in common,
they hurt.
Not all the time; in fact,
most often you forget they’re there, in the midst
of your daily routine.
Only when you see an adorable ceramic mug, in the tainted window
of a cute natural food store, or
when you flip through a new book, breathing deeply
in order to catch the lingering scent the story holds.
That’s when you remember,
and oh, it hurts.
It hurts, because they’re not there to
stop
and admire the mug,
to take in the smell of that
new,
old novel.
Those wonderful, beautiful,
heart-wrenching moments.
That’s when you remember,
the reason you’re
aching, hurting, internally
screaming.
That’s when you remember,
the love you’re missing,
the love you’re longing for.
Love and you,
apart.
