Beach Poem: Response
Endless swells of sand
A boy who stood within them
A vortex of lines carved into the shore
The girl who drew them
Using driftwood as a tool to show him the divine
A forgotten soundtrack played to an eternal memory
Her spirit radiates exuberance
Her body was gyrating and glowed in the afternoon sun
Projecting a sense of bliss into the world
The boy wanted to be in a music video
He felt that this would’ve made the perfect scene
Dreams of companionship
(wife/husband/housemate)
Someone he could be around so he wouldn’t feel alone
They’re growing up
She will step foot out into the world next year
He will not
He will forever preserve that moment in taxidermy
But it exists as a single exhibit in a museum of memories
As many as the grains of sand in that place
Where the boy stood in the center of the sand drawn gyre
Memories being made
For when nostalgia turns back their gaze
To remember them.
