In silence, I stand,

My head lifted to the syrupy,

Blueberry-stained sky.

The whistling winter wind

Engulfs me.

The snow gleams

Like a midnight sunrise.

My dazed eyes close

At the sweet voice

Of the first snowfall’s lullaby.

The delicate flakes of the storm

Tumble

Like nimble ballerinas,

Their satin slippers glistening

From the snowy stage’s

Subtle reflection.

Softly,

Their toes touch down.

They land on my cheek,

My eyelids,

My tongue,

While the rest

Settle at my feet.
